I could have written to you about WHO I AM and WHAT I DO and WHERE I COME FROM… in truth though none of this would be of any interest to you with the exception of what we have in common, which is the WORLD OF CABLES.
So I’ll tell you a little story that actually happened more than 17 years ago.
At that time I was in Romania where I ONLY WANTED TO SELL VESPAS…that’s right, the famous scooter made by Piaggio; I was Area Manager for Eastern Europe and during a tour with my friend Florin in which I was trying to set up a sales network across the country in the automotive sector, I went to visit a company that was part of a large group; it was a company that manufactured CABLES for the residential sector but also for the automotive and cabling industries, and in addition it was a supplier to my own company.
I would never ever have thought that a few years later I would have become the HEAD OF SALES of that company with its enormous potential but operational difficulties; but it was a challenge that I decided to accept without giving it a second thought.
However, the experience has been the most beautiful and beneficial of my life, as I had the opportunity to enter a new world like a child in a toyshop.
I had the chance to get to know suppliers of machinery, components and materials, to participate in the construction of a factory, and to make the acquaintance of many colleagues and partners in the automotive industry; but above all else, I met many people who have now become my friends and customers all over Europe.
First and foremost are the guys from Bosch Power Tools and Automotive and Delphi whom I really owe big-time since they introduced me to the world of cables; but I also have to acknowledge and thank a friend who was CEO of a large cable company and who for reasons of confidentiality I won’t name but who for good or bad, first introduced me to this industry way back in 2001.
You know, I recently read a book called “Celestine’s Prophecy”. It’s loved and hated by many readers but it has sold 20 million copies and has been translated into 34 languages. If you haven’t read it I would recommend it because that book could be a metaphor for my life course in the world of CABLES but also a metaphor for the life course of us all.
So, rather like in the book, and quite by chance, in 1999 I met Mr. Zoltan and Mr. Michele, who introduced me to Mr. Graziano, who then introduced me to Mr. Marco and so on and so forth until today; that is exactly why I can say that this is a “metaphor” for my life course or rather my professional career path and that it is taking shape, and has taken shape, in the world of cables.
Since then time has passed and now my days are filled with this world of polymers, resistances, copper, electricity and above all, research into the best solutions for my collaborators and business partners.
But above all, the issues that I like best and that interest me the most are intercultural relations, managing negotiations, management and international corporate management on which I wrote my degree thesis at the end of the nineties; but something else that interests me greatly is the advice that can come from every individual and company that makes up this world.
And now? You wonder? and LOGICABLES?
And so, LOGICABLES then came from an IDEA that I got for a project, my BLOG, yes, my very own that I’m starting to write, when I didn’t really like writing in Italian while I was in high school, and, let alone in English or German.
LOGICABLES and I of course, want to provide time and space to promote the ideas of people, leaders and professionals who I’ve known and who I really rate, special people in this sector, people that we should learn from, be they buyers, managers, entrepreneurs or technicians … … people who, over and above mere business, I want to keep in touch with and to give them the best possible service and to get back so much knowledge both professional and about life in general. But above all, the aim of LOGICABLES is to talk about Management in running a company and the distribution and manufacture of Cables.
LOGICABLES was conceived from the idea of bringing together all the friends and countless clients both potential and non, who are part of the “METAPHOR” of my life and who, like me, have a passion for CABLES without too many frills, and who are CONNECTED with a cable a bit like the Nokia slogan of years ago that said: CONNECTING PEOPLE.
I’ll close with a phrase by my Israeli professor at Tel Aviv University, Mr Boaz Roenen, with whom I studied focus management during my MBA at SDA Bocconi in Milan in 2004 and who introduced me to the Theory of Constraints (TOC), a theory that has been very useful in our world of cables in increasing productivity, reducing lead times, and focusing on the company’s true Value Drives; Mr Roenen told us students, “Gentlemen, you can study as much you as want about the best management and supply management techniques in the best schools in the world, but what I’m telling you openly is that the best university is the experience of your life!”; and in the world of cables, I would add: experience is crucial, so GO BEYOND CABLES!
